Got Milk?
So, I was going to post more pics about our vacation but today Leilani had her 4 month check up and I am having a very hard time with what I was told. Since her 2 month check up my little has gained no weight, apparently and still only weighs 13 lbs. I was just completely baffled by this, because she is no longer wearing the 0-3 clothes and looks just healthy, her doctor told me to not worry they very at this stage but if she does not gain quite a bit of weight by her 6 month were going to have to switch her eating all together. Just a little fyi, I am full time breastfeeding and I give her a bottle of formula if I go out, or something and can't breastfeed her or don't feel comfortable. (It's a little bit more complicated cause I use a nipple shield, haha it's truely a life saver!) I didn't feel to bad but I had my doctors appointment right after my little's and my doctor was saying I'm probably not producing enough milk, and that I should supplement her more with formula. I just feel horrible, like my daughter isn't gaining weight and it's my fault cause I'm her food supply. I just don't understand why I'm not producing enough milk, and why she didn't gain weight... I want to breastfeed as long as I can, I personally cherish the time i have feeding her, which is why this whole situation is so frustrating to me. I guess I could up my water intake, but I don't know what else to do...any suggestions?

Awww...you def shouldn't feel disappointed believe it or not more women have a lack of milk supply than women who get enough milk. Increasing you water supply sounds like a good idea as well as putting her to the breast more often. Do you think the nipple shied is a hindrance to the amount of milk she is actually able to take in? I know it is kind of bothersome but maybe try without the nipple shield to see if that works. Im a breastfeeding mother as well so I know how you feel except Im opposite my little one is gaining too much weight. I hope everything works out for you!
ReplyDeleteThank you :) It was just disappointing to know that this is my daughter and her not gaining weight was my fault cause shes a child. I don't think the nipple shield hinders the amount of milk I produce I was actually really worried about that when I started using it only like a week after she was born. I've also been in contact with my lacation consultant and she assured me the nipple shield works and everything. Your baby is gaining to much weight? Thank you soo much for the support I really appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome anytime...and yes my little one was born 7lbs 9oz and by the time she was 2 months old she was already 12lbs. The doctor said shes gaining weight pretty fast and right now he isnt too concerned, but he wants to make sure she doesnt gain too much weight either...I havent had her weighed since then, but shes about 3 1/2 months old now so I guess we'll see when she goes next month. And this is off topic, but I saw you were Navy are you all in Jackson Park??
